Brand: Butz Choquin | Versallies 1512

A French pipe brand founded in 1858 in St. Claude, the capital of the briar pipe; it is still in production today and makes very high-quality pipes.

Note: Frankly, I would call this pipe absolutely "unsmoked." There is not a single sign that it was ever smoked! The shank is bright and light in color, and the marks of the lathe tooling are still visible inside the chamber.

Shape: Billiard

Filter: 9 mm

Mouthpiece: Acrylic

Length: 14 cm

Height: 4.5 cm

Chamber Diameter: 2 cm

Chamber Depth: 4 cm

Weight Without Mouthpiece: 38.8 g

Total Weight: 49.1 g

Shank: Very clean and light in color

Smoke Channel (Draft Hole): Dead center of the chamber and flush with the chamber floor.

Chamber Cleanliness: I do not think it has ever been cleaned, because it is as smooth as new.

Condition: 10/10

Flaws: On close inspection you might spot one or two cosmetic issues, and that is all.

Score: 9/10

Comment: The band on the body is 925 sterling silver. I do not know about the ornament on the mouthpiece; it may be silver as well. Despite all that, the weight is ideal. I can comfortably call it an upper-intermediate pipe. Very elegant.

Note: Any pipe in which you have not built up a cake layer will run hot unless you smoke at an extremely slow, systematic cadence. Running hot is not a criterion for judging pipes that have no cake.
