Brand: Gefapip

A brand from St. Claude, the first region in France where briar was used for pipes. The brand appears in the 1979 Tinder Box catalogs, but we do not have any further information about it. Apart from a few small flaws noted in the "Flaws" section, this is an estate pipe in very good condition.

Smoke Channel (Draft Hole): Drilled dead center of the chamber and flush with the chamber floor.

Shank: Very clean. Mostly light in color.

Chamber Cleanliness: The chamber has been very professionally cleaned of cake, and the chamber wall is smooth.

Condition: 7/10

Mouthpiece: V Cut

Flaws: No flaws at all apart from one or two assorted dents and pits.

Score: 7/10

Comment: For beginner or intermediate pipe smokers, the stummel shows very good craftsmanship. The V Cut mouthpiece is an advantage that directly affects the smoke. Considering it was made in the 1970s-80s, the cosmetic issues can easily be overlooked; they have no effect on the smoke.

Note: Any pipe in which you have not built up a cake layer will run hot unless you smoke at an extremely slow, systematic cadence. Running hot is not a criterion for judging pipes that have no cake.
