Brand: Ropp - Pompei

One of France's most long-established pipe makers, Ropp was founded in 1869 when Eugène-Léon Ropp patented his distinctive pipe design built around a cherrywood body. During the war years and the early 20th century, the brand achieved enormous worldwide popularity with its authentic pipes featuring cherrywood stems with the bark left on. In 1917 it moved to the Saint-Claude region, the heart of French pipe manufacturing, and began focusing on high-quality briar pipe production as well, continuing as a family company for generations. Although the original factory closed in 1991, in 1994 the brand was bought by Cuty-Fort, the firm that also owns the legendary French maker Chacom. Today Ropp-branded pipes are still produced to a high standard at the Chacom facilities, faithful to the original retro French shapes and classicism.

Shank: Light in color and very clean.

Smoke Channel (Draft Hole): Dead center of the chamber, but it does not sit flush with the chamber floor. The gap is noticeable, so extra care should be taken to smoke down to the bottom.

Chamber Cleanliness: Quite well reamed and very symmetrical.

Condition: 8/10

Flaws: None.

Score: 6/10
