Although the last major factory in Bad König closed in 1988, the brand’s overall years of activity spanned from 1919 to 2003. Letterheads suggest that the company was originally founded in 1877.

The exact production period of this particular pipe is difficult to determine, as no further documentation is available.

Draft Hole (Airway): Precisely centered and drilled flush to the bottom of the chamber.

Shank: Very clean. What stands out is its resemblance to the Peterson System. While I could not fully confirm this visually, the mortise–shank construction appears identical. The Peterson System was patented between 1891–1894, which initially suggests an earlier production date, though the opposite remains equally possible.

Chamber Condition: Professionally cleaned, free of residue, with smooth chamber walls. Coated with carbon, unplated.

Flaws: Minor dents on the left side of the chamber wall and beneath the shank. The original stem is missing; however, with a custom replacement, the pipe could look striking. The stem is not V-cut. I noticed one or two small, well-camouflaged pits (sand spots) that have no effect on smoking quality. The only drawback that might affect performance is the stem.

Comment: The bowl displays excellent craftsmanship, making this pipe suitable for beginner to intermediate smokers. While the stem quality is not on par with the bowl, the overall construction and durability are impressive. With its thick walls and good briar quality, this pipe promises resilience and minimal risk of moisture issues, making it a solid choice for regular use.

Note: Every pipe without a built-up cake layer will heat up if smoked heavily and systematically. Heating alone should not be considered a flaw in pipes without cake.
