The maker Frank Axmacher was born in 1963. On stamps up to 2008 the letters "AX" are set between the two horizontal strokes of an "F", with the grade and date stamped below the strokes; in that period's two-letter grading, the first letter denoted rising quality from F to A, and the second the maker's own assessment. On the current circular stamp the date appears within the circle (11 = 2011), and the grade rises in the order C, B, A, and AA for exceptional pipes.
