This pipe was made for the 1933 Chicago World's Fair; the right-face stamps on the shank match those of the Chelsea example issued for the same fair. The *2 stamp and patent number on the underside indicate the pipe contains a metal filter rod called the "Grand Slam." The "Virgin Briar" line began in 1933 and no longer appears in Comoy's 1965 catalogs.
