The brand was founded by Alix Delacour in the late 19th century; production took place at the factory at 14 bis rue Carnot in Saint-Claude. The A.D and J.D letters on the silver marks refer to Auguste and Joseph Delacour, who ran the affiliated company Delacour Brothers Ltd in London; the hallmark belongs to the Birmingham Assay Office. The firm's activity ended in the late 1950s.
