On early pipes the "Il Ceppo" stamp is slightly curved; it uses a letter from A to H, a four- or five-digit number, and a group number inside a triangle. In the later period the stamp is struck straight, and the digit denotes surface finish: 1 sandblast, 2 partial rustic, 3 partial sandblast, 4-5-6-7 smooth finish in rising grain quality, 9 rustic. The brand's sub-brand is Amarcord.
