The brand was founded in 1856 by Emil Loewe. It later passed to Civic, joining the Cadogan group (BBB, Civic, Comoy, GBD, Loewe, Orlik) around 1979. The date letter 'D' on the band corresponds to 1978 in the London assay office system. See Haymarket.
