The pipes were made by Jean Masson, born in 1934, whose workshop is in Villard-Saint-Sauveur near Saint-Claude. Output reached roughly 250 carved and 1,000 classic pipes a year, slowing after 2009. Masson is the inventor of the patented "Anti-jus" (anti-buildup) system.
