Tynwald is the legislature of the Isle of Man and is considered the oldest continuously functioning parliament; its thousandth anniversary was celebrated in 1979. The stamp is linked to the Laxey Pipe Factory, which closed in 2002; the same factory also produced the Manxpipe, Manxman, and Manxland brands. See also Man Pipes.
