The brand name comes from the English physician Sir Morell Mackenzie (1837-1892), considered a pioneer of laryngology in the United Kingdom. Mackenzie is also known for failing to diagnose the throat cancer of German Emperor Frederick III. The hallmarks on the band belong to the London Assay Office.
