The stamps are thought, according to records, to be associated with a subline or second-quality range of Hardcastle; the crown figure is similar to those of the Royal Bruyere and Royal Crown stamps. The same brand name was used by at least around ten English and French makers and dealers (Wilczak and Colwell).
