Vitaliano Posella is the son of briar-block cutter Salvatore Posella; he began making pipes with his brother-in-law Tonino Jacono, then set up his own workshop when Jacono moved to Jesi. The workshop is in San Vito sullo Ionio, Calabria. Grades run in ascending order R (rustic), RN, SR (part-rustic), L, star(s) (smooth), F (straight grain), and Fancy; the top F and Fancy pipes also carry a "ViP" stamp.
