The maker, Michele Mellone, was born in 1968 and made his first pipe in 1999. Guidance from Teddy Knudsen, support from briar cutter Mimmo, and collaboration with Luca Di Piazza brought him recognition in international pipe circles. The Italian word "salmastro" means brackish, salty water.
