The brand was founded in 1912 by Stefano Santambrogio (1867-1951). His sons Renzo and Armando ran the factory until 1981, after which Renzo's son Stefano (b. 1952) took over production. The script-lettered stamps are of more recent date; the name Stefano is recorded as having been used for the second-quality line.
