New Castle English

New Castle English is one of Abenaki Tobacco's two English mixtures. Per the maker's recipe, African- and Turkish-origin leaf is brought together with Virginia; Latakia is added only enough not to overpower the blend. The brand describes this mixture as the mildest among its Latakia products.

The low Latakia ratio makes it an entry point for smokers trying the smoky line of English mixtures who aren't ready for a heavy Balkan structure. The Oriental leaf adds a dry, grassy, faintly tangy edge to the blend, while the Virginia sets the sweet base. Abenaki Tobacco was based in Conway, New Hampshire; the brand's own sales site isn't live today.
