Turmeaus is a tobacconist house founded in Liverpool in 1817; the name 1817 given to the blend also references this founding year. Selected Virginia leaves form the mixture's body, with smoky Latakia and a smaller proportion of Turkish-origin Oriental added. This produces a measured interpretation of the classic English mixture scheme: Virginia sweetness sets the base, Latakia smoke provides the frame, and the Oriental gives a spicy, tangy top note.
Even before lighting, the smoke scent is noticeable on opening; the smoke is mild, with nicotine at light-to-medium, making it suitable for those looking for a Latakia mixture they can smoke all day. Since the Latakia ratio isn't as high as in heavy Balkan-style blends, it can also serve as an entry point for smokers new to English mixtures. It's presented in a 50-gram tin.
