London Dock

London Dock is an old American blend, per records originally released by the St. Louis-based Christian Peper Tobacco Company, later passing to Bloch Brothers and then to John Middleton. In the blend list published during Middleton's era, the product is described as a rum-flavored, rubbed cake cut made of Burley and Virginia leaf. The original product was discontinued in the early 2000s.

Its character follows the familiar line of American cake tobaccos: Burley's nutty, earthy base combines with Virginia's bready sweetness; the rum flavoring adds a measured sweetness and a light boozy depth over this base. The leaf, rubbed from the cake, burns slow and cool. The name is carried on today under a different manufacturer, with a new interpretation prepared using Burley, Virginia, Oriental, and Perique along with rum and coumarin sold under the same name. It's a historical reference point for smokers wanting to get to know the cake-cut, measured-sweetness American style.
