Astley's No.2 Virginia Mixture is prepared by ribbon-blending red and golden Virginia leaf with Perique added on top. The red Virginias set a toasted, bready base, while the light-colored flue-cured leaves carry a tangy sweetness; the Perique is kept noticeable but not enough to take over the blend.

Nicotine sits between light and medium, offering a mild smoke that isn't harsh on the tongue. It suits those new to the Virginia-Perique family, as well as smokers wanting Perique's plummy, spicy contribution in moderation. The blend carries the name of Astley's, the tobacconist on Jermyn Street in London, and is produced today by Kohlhase & Kopp.
