Buttered Rum

Buttered Rum is a rod-cut aromatic in Backwoods' pipe tobacco line, built from a trio of golden Virginia, white Burley, and Cavendish. New England and Jamaican rums are used in the flavoring; since the topping ratio is kept very high, the rum scent overtakes the tobacco scent on opening the pouch. The leaf is dark-colored and noticeably moist, requiring airing before lighting.

Nicotine load in the smoke is very low; in contrast, the flavoring intensity largely masks the tobacco's taste and can leave a sharp, bitterish residue on the palate. It's aimed at smokers looking for a strong rum aroma who accept the tobacco character taking a back seat; it isn't a good choice for those seeking natural leaf taste.
