Bengal Slices was a Latakia-forward blend, originally produced by House of Sobranie, pressed into a crumble-cake form. It gained a wide following in the 1970s, then was quietly withdrawn from the market. In 2015, rights to the brand were acquired by Standard Tobacco Company of Pennsylvania, and blender Russ Ouellette was brought on to re-create the blend.
The reissued version adds premium Orientals, Virginias, and some black Cavendish over the Latakia base; a single, measured top note is worked into the blend. Since it comes as a cake, it needs to be rubbed out before smoking. It's aimed at smokers looking for smoky, sweetish, deep English mixtures, as well as those chasing the trail of the original blend.
