Dark Stoved

Dark Stoved is the steam-darkened, pure virginia cake in Butera's Royal Vintage line. A single type of lemon-yellow virginia leaf, once matured, is slowly heated under pressure; by the end of the process the cakes turn chocolate-colored.

The heat treatment lowers the leaf's tartness and brings dark fruit and baked flavors forward. Through the smoke the taste shifts from tart and spicy toward soft and round. Suitable for smokers bothered by the acidity of red virginias, yet still seeking an unflavored, dark virginia.
