Black Dawg

Black Dawg was a mixture built by adding Syrian Latakia and perique to an unsweetened black cavendish base. Cavendish's round sweetness forms the body, Latakia brings a smoky, resinous layer, and perique leaves a light spice and plum direction in the background. As no sugar is added, the sweetness comes from the leaf's own processing.

The blend went out of production in its original form once the supply of Syrian Latakia was cut off; according to available records, Cornell & Diehl rebuilt the same structure with Cyprus Latakia and continued it under a different name. It is a medium-strength smoke, not the kind whose smoke fills the mouth. It falls within the interest of those seeking the Latakia-and-cavendish pairing on a soft foundation.
