Five O'Clock Shadow is a member of Cornell & Diehl's Working Man series, dedicated to the working person. Red Virginia, fire-cured Kentucky, and perique are pressed into a cake, presented as an easily crumbled, dark-flecked block; once crumbled it yields a fine cut close to shag, making it practical to pack.
On opening the tin, dry grass and floral Virginia sweetness are layered with Kentucky's smoky aroma and perique's tangy-spiced fruit note. On the smoke, perique's spice turns raisin-like, joined by Virginia's sweetness and an earthy note from the Kentucky, with pronounced nicotine. Its heavy body and long burn suit smaller-chambered pipes; it is aimed at those seeking an unflavored, high-nicotine blend.
