King Cake

King Cake is a pressed blend in Cornell & Diehl's aging-focused Cellar Series, first released in summer 2016. It takes its name from the king cake dessert of New Orleans' Mardi Gras tradition; per the maker, the celebration period begins with Epiphany on January 6th. Its composition includes Virginia, black Cavendish, Oriental tobaccos, and Perique.

The maker places the blend in the aromatic family; most of the sweetness comes from the Cavendish, while Perique and Oriental tobacco build a spicy background. Nicotine load is kept low. Records indicate it reaches its best point in aging between ten and fifteen years, placing it among the light aromatics taken for cellaring.
