Riverboat Gambler is a ribbon-cut American mixture bringing together tobaccos of the American South: Virginia, Louisiana Perique, and Turkish leaf are added on top of a Burley base. It takes its name from the gamblers of Mississippi riverboats; records note the blend grew out of a joint effort between Craig Tarler and Bob Runowski.
On the smoke, Burley comes forward, Perique follows with a plum-and-pepper sharpness, and Oriental leaf leaves a spicy texture in the background. It follows an unflavored, straightforward flavor line reminiscent of a cigar smoke; nicotine level is fairly high, and each leaf in the blend can be tasted separately. Suited to smokers accustomed to Burley who want body rather than sweetness.
