Star of the East

Star of the East is a full-bodied English mixture built on Cyprus Latakia, which makes up half the blend. Latakia is joined generously by Turkish leaf; sweetness comes from stoved red Virginia, added so the colors darken and the flavor deepens. It's one of the blends Cornell & Diehl has kept in its catalogue for many years.

Despite the high Latakia proportion, the maker's description notes it burns cool and offers a deep flavor layer. Turkish leaf's resinous spice and Virginia's dark sweetness balance the smoky base. Prepared for smokers accustomed to heavy smoky blends; the room note is strong and clings to fabric.
