Klompen Kloggen, whose name means "wooden shoe" in Dutch, is an old American blend built in the Dutch-style aromatic tradition. Per its marketing copy, it's hand-mixed from shag-cut Burley, light-colored long-cut Virginia, Carolina leaf, Connecticut shade leaf, and Turkish Yenidje tobacco; the fruit-based flavoring applied during curing is considered the blend's signature.
On the smoke, a light cherry or fruit sweetness sits alongside a texture reminiscent of cigar leaf and a dry Oriental spice; body is mild to medium, and it's known for not biting the tongue. The blend was produced by the D.W.G. Cigar Corporation; at the end of 1967, rights to the brand passed to R. G. Dun Corp., and the name was later carried on by other manufacturers. This entry describes the original D.W.G.-era version, which as such is discontinued.
