Fleetenkieker

Fleetenkieker is an aromatic blend from Dan Tobacco's Hamburg-themed "Hamburger Pfeifentabak" series. It contains sun-ripened golden Virginia leaf in varying cut widths, a generous amount of black Cavendish, and a very small pinch of Louisiana Perique, topped with a modest fruit casing. The name refers to people who, when Hamburg's canals (known as "Fleete") ran low, would wade in to collect whatever had settled at the bottom.

The weight of black Cavendish makes the blend sweet and soft; the small amount of Perique leaves a light spice and tartness in the background. Its low nicotine makes it suitable for all-day smoking. The maker notes the blend opens up more evenly in medium-sized bowls. Suited to smokers who like sweet aromatics but want to avoid heavily syrupy mixtures.
