Royal Yacht's name refers to King George V's 1911 voyage to the Delhi Durbar aboard the RMS Medina; when Alfred Dunhill launched his pre-packaged blends in 1912, he named one Royal Yacht and another Durbar in commemoration of the event. The tobacco was produced in London for many years before production moved to the Assens factory in Denmark. The tin contains short, bulky ribbon-cut Virginia leaves in various colors; its appearance recalls a ready-rubbed texture.
The blend carries a serious sauce: a complex topping combining light spicy fruit aroma, tart notes and coumarin. It catches easily and sustains its burn. It's strong in nicotine and intense in taste; it's heavy for those seeking light smokes. With aging, the sauce's sharpness fades and the aroma concentrates. It's a long-lived classic built for smokers seeking strong Virginia blends together with a pronounced sauce.
