Black & Tan

Black & Tan is a member of a small tobacco line prepared for the British pipe maker Ferndown, sold in 50-gram packs. According to retailer records, the blend consists of toasted Virginia leaves and mild Oriental leaves; it carries no flavouring.

The toasting process darkens Virginia's sugar, while the Oriental leaf adds a dry-grass and light-spice line to it. Since it contains no latakia, the smoke doesn't carry the smoky taste of English blends; the nicotine load is on the light side. It suits smokers seeking a plain, untopped Virginia-Oriental blend. The line's distribution has stayed limited and its current production status is unclear.
