War Horse Bar

War Horse is a Gallaher brand widely smoked in Ireland that in time also found buyers in Britain. The version called Bar is the blend's pressed, plug-cut form. The original mix is built on earthy Burley, ripe red Virginia, a notable proportion of smoky fire-cured Kentucky, and a small amount of Perique; a single anise-forward flavouring is applied over it.

It is a heavy tobacco in body and nicotine; the plug form gives a slow, cool burn. The Gallaher version has been out of production for a long time. Records indicate the Standard Tobacco Company of Pennsylvania produces a reinterpretation under the same name; this version is described as having a tin aroma reminiscent of tonka bean, dark cherry, liquorice root, and vanilla. It suits experienced smokers accustomed to dark leaf and high nicotine.
