Bosun Cut Plug

Bosun Cut Plug is a broken-flake blend produced by pressing and cutting dark-fired Virginia together with light Virginia, then breaking the result. The pressed plug tobacco is finished with a fine Lakeland topping based on clove essence. Within Gawith, Hoggarth's classic trio built on dark-fired leaf, it sits somewhere between Coniston Cut Plug and Dark Flake.

In the smoke, the smoky, woody flavour of the dark-fired leaf leads; the light Virginia lays a bread-like sweetness beneath it, and the clove draws a spicy edge without masking the taste. It burns slow and cool with a heavy nicotine load. The thick broken pieces want a bit of airing before lighting. It suits smokers accustomed to dark, strong, lightly topped English tobaccos; it may be heavy for those new to the pipe.
