Broken Scotch Cake

Broken Scotch Cake is prepared by combining hot-air-cured Virginia leaf, predominantly, with sun-cured leaf added to cool and sweeten the smoke, then pressing the mix. Because the pressed mass is broken into coarse pieces, the tobacco has a large, irregular appearance; this coarse cut gives a slow, cool burn.

It is an untopped blend and stays on the light side in flavour. Virginia's grassy sweetness leads, and the sun-cured leaf adds a dry, faintly tart frame to it. The nicotine load is low. It is a good record for those new to the pipe as well as those looking for a blending tobacco to mellow out blends they find too heavy.
