Brown Bogie-Sweet Rum

Brown Bogie is a traditional Kendal product made by twisting dark fire-cured and air-cured leaf into rope form; this version applies a rum bowl note to the rope. The rope is sliced coin-thin and rubbed out for smoking. According to sources, alongside the black twist versions, the brown twist is also considered high in nicotine, and the rum sweetness doesn't fully mask the weight of the leaf.

The taste is spicy, oily, and earthy; the rum only becomes distinct in the second half of the bowl. In terms of nicotine it sits at the very top end of pipe tobaccos, so it is not suited to smoking on an empty stomach or a fast smoke. It suits an experienced smoker who knows how to work with rope tobacco and doesn't shy away from strength; it is a direct continuation of the old Kendal tradition of sailors cutting and chewing pieces off a rope.
