Coniston Plug

Coniston is a product of the pressing tradition Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. carries on in Kendal. Light-coloured and fire-cured Virginias are blended with Burley; the leaves are steamed, the topping added by hand, then placed in a mould, left under press overnight, and cooked in the press. The resulting cake is sold as a plug or sliced; before smoking it is sliced with a knife and rubbed out.

Its body is medium; the floral top note of the Lakeland style is kept measured here. For this reason it is one of the products smokers new to Lakeland-essenced tobaccos often start with. It suits those willing to work with pressed tobacco and smoke slowly.
