Deluxe Twist XXX

Deluxe Twist XXX is a thick hand-twisted rope tobacco from Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. in Kendal. It's produced by rolling and pressing fire-cured and air-cured dark leaves together with Virginia; it's a notably thicker cut than the brand's fine ropes called Pigtail and Bogie. Before smoking, fine slices are cut from the rope, rubbed out, and usually aired for a while.

On the taste side, unflavored Virginia character leads: it gives a sharp, herbal sweetness occasionally approaching dried fig. Nicotine is high, so it suits smokers accustomed to rope tobaccos and to fullness; it's heavy going for a beginner. Records indicate it's among the fullest of the rope tobaccos that carry on Gawith Hoggarth's Kendal tradition dating back to 1792.
