Ennerdale Flake is one of the best-known examples of the floral-soapy essence tobaccos known as "Lakeland" in Kendal tradition. A dough of Virginia and Burley leaf is pressed and sliced, topped with an almond-and-fruit-citrus-forward essence. This essence is pronounced, but records indicate it doesn't fully mask the Virginia's own sweetness, so the blend sits on a line that's both aromatic and tobacco-forward.
The smoke is cool, nutty, and fruity; nicotine sits at a light-to-medium level, making it suitable for all-day smoking. Since it holds strongly to jar and pipe, it's usually smoked in a dedicated pipe. Can serve as a starting point for those wanting to get to know Lakeland style and for anyone seeking an essence-topped but not sugary flake.
