Kendal Extra Sweet Brown Pigtail

Brown Pigtail is one of Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s hand-twisted fine rope (pigtail) tobaccos. Strong Virginia leaf is twisted into rope and flavored with maple sugars; the name "extra sweet" denotes the version where this flavoring is applied more intensely. Fine slices are cut from the rope and rubbed out before packing the pipe.

The fine twist gives a more intense taste than the thick Irish twist; on the other hand, it's more of a chore to cut. On the smoke, a peppery sharpness and an earthy, musk-reminiscent base stand out; the sugar doesn't turn this into an aromatic, just rounds off its edge. Nicotine is very high. Aimed at smokers accustomed to rope tobaccos wanting a strong smoke; historically, these fine ropes were also used as chewing tobacco among sailors and miners.
