Perique

This entry is not a blend but the unflavored Perique leaf sold in Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s single-leaf series. Perique is produced by fermenting harvested Louisiana leaf under pressure in its own juices; the result is a very intense leaf carrying both a plum-fig sweetness and a peppery sharpness.

It isn't meant to be smoked on its own; its traditional use is being added in small proportions to Virginia-based mixtures to give them spice, body, and coolness. It's a component ingredient for smokers building their own blends; because of its high nicotine and intense taste, it's used in moderation.
