Sliced Brown Rum is the rum-topped, factory-sliced member of Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s brown Burma family. The rope is prepared by hand-twisting dark fire-cured leaf; cutting it yields dark reddish-brown coin-shaped slices.

The rum meets a lighter, less smoky base than in the black version; earth, bready sweetness, and spice notes stand out. Since it doesn't go through a pressure-cooking stage, it's intense in nicotine, suited to being thinly sliced and smoked slowly. An entry aimed at those wanting a topped Burma that doesn't tip into a sugary aromatic. Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. is one of the English producers that continues traditional twist (rope) production at its Kendal factory, hand-twisting fire-cured leaves into rope form. Because twist tobaccos don't go through a pressure-cooking stage, they stay intense in nicotine; records indicate these ropes are sold for both chewing and pipe smoking.
