Sweet Coconut Twist

Sweet Coconut Twist is one of Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s old-style rope (twist) tobaccos. The leaves are twisted and wound like rope and left to mature, producing a dark-colored, oily-looking, tightly wound roll. A light coconut-based flavoring is applied over the roll. According to sources, this flavoring doesn't mask the tobacco's own heavy, fire-cured character — it's more noticeable in the aroma than in the smoke's taste, and recedes as the smoking progresses.

The general rule for rope tobaccos applies here too: the roll burns evenly when very thinly sliced and rubbed out, but is hard to light and needs a lot of relighting when cut thick. Nicotine is high, giving a hearty fullness. Not for those expecting a mild aromatic; suited to smokers familiar with dark, strong, traditional English rope tobaccos who are willing to do the slicing and preparation work.
