Sweet Pigtail is a pigtail-type Burma tobacco produced by twisting dark fire-cured leaves into a fine rope. It's traditionally sold both as chewing tobacco and for pipe smoking; because of its thin diameter it's used cut into small discs, and the cut surface shows a dark reddish-brown color in direct light.
The pouch aroma is oily and spicy. On the smoke, the earthy, smoky core of the fire-curing runs alongside the sweet topping applied during production. Since it doesn't go through a pressure-cooking stage, it stays intense in nicotine; it needs to be thinly sliced and smoked slowly. Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. is one of the English producers that continues traditional twist (rope) production at its Kendal factory, hand-twisting fire-cured leaves into rope form. Because twist tobaccos don't go through a pressure-cooking stage, they stay intense in nicotine; records indicate these ropes are sold for both chewing and pipe smoking.
