Sweet Rum Pigtail

Sweet Rum Pigtail is the rum-topped version of pigtail Burma tobacco, produced by twisting fire-cured leaves into a fine rope. The producer sells these fine ropes suited to both chewing and pipe smoking; they're cut into small discs for use.

Rum is pronounced in the pouch aroma. On the smoke, the initial sharpness gradually gives way to a sweet, spicy, creamy taste; underneath, the earthy core of the fire-curing remains. Being intense in nicotine, it calls for slow smoking. Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. is one of the English producers that continues traditional twist (rope) production at its Kendal factory, hand-twisting fire-cured leaves into rope form. Because twist tobaccos don't go through a pressure-cooking stage, they stay intense in nicotine; records indicate these ropes are sold for both chewing and pipe smoking.
