Ultimum is a blend in Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s aromatic line labeled "American type." Black Cavendish forms the base, joined by aged Virginia and mild Burley. Cherry and caramel flavoring is applied on top. The product was previously sold as Cherry & Caramel before taking on the name Ultimum. The cut is ribbon; moisture is high, and the color is dark due to the black Cavendish weight.

Its character is markedly sweet and mild. Black Cavendish gives the body a thick, sugary base, while Virginia adds light fruitiness and Burley a nutty dryness; the cherry-and-caramel topping leads in both aroma and taste. Nicotine is low and tongue bite stays limited, so it's counted among the blends that even those new to the pipe can comfortably smoke.
