Captain Earle's Honor Blend is an unflavored blend in which red Virginia, Oriental, mild Cavendish, and Perique leaves are stoved and pressed into an old-style crumble cake. It contains no Latakia; its center of gravity is Virginia. The stoving process gives a bready, dark sweetness, while Oriental and Perique build a spice layer in the background.
The blend is named in memory of Captain Earle's New Zealand-born wife, Honor Matthews. Captain Earle's tobaccos were created within Hermit Tobacco Works by Jay and Louise Jones; after Jay Jones's death in 2011, production continued through a collaboration with Cornell & Diehl. It's aimed at smokers looking for a full-bodied Virginia blend without Latakia.
