Dr. Pat Irish Mixture

Dr. Pat is a pipe tobacco brand with a history of roughly a century. It was originally produced by the William Butler Tobacco Company, later taken over by Imperial Tobacco's Australian arm; today it's sold only in Australia and New Zealand, and is one of the few classic pipe tobaccos still surviving in those markets. It's recognized by its round tins with black and green enamel lids.

The blend is built on finely cut Virginia, Burley, and Cavendish, and flavored with a light liqueur note. On opening the tin, a pronounced aroma reminiscent of fruit cake comes through; in the smoke, though, the flavoring stays much further in the background, and the tobacco's own mild, lightly sweet taste comes forward. Nicotine load is low. It suits those looking for a plain, light, traditional everyday tobacco.
