Ambassador is a mild blend in the tinned pipe tobacco line of James B. Russell, a company that operated in New Jersey for many years. Its composition includes Virginia leaf, Oriental (Turkish) tobaccos, and black Cavendish; because the black Cavendish share raises the blend's sugar balance, the flavor leans sweet without drifting into heavy aromatic territory. Nicotine load is low, and the smoke stays mild.

The company operated as a tobacco importer and distributor in the United States, first based in New York and later in New Jersey; when it ceased operations, the blends in this line were withdrawn from the market as well.
