Provost Mixture is James J. Fox's black-Cavendish-forward blend. American Cavendish gives the blend body and sweetness, while select bright Virginias dilute that sweetness for a cool smoke. It's presented in a ribbon cut; opening the tin gives off an aroma reminiscent of plum, raisin, and fig.
On the smoke, sweetness is felt from the start but never reaches a syrupy weight. Strength is low and the smoke is full-bodied. A profile suited to those wanting a lightly aromatic, easy-lighting blend for all-day smoking, and to those new to Cavendish-based mixtures. James J. Fox's St. James Street shop in London and its Dublin branch carry the brand's long history.
